Special Programs Office
In a small percentage of the general education population there are students who require more intense or specialized instruction, for those students a referral to the Committee on Special Education (CSE) may be appropriate. The CSE has the responsibility of evaluating, determining eligibility and providing special education services for children ages 5-21. In addition, a Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE) is in place. The CPSE reviews and coordinates services for children ages 3-5.
As a parent, you are vital member of the CSE and CPSE team that is responsible for developing an appropriate educational program for your child. You must be given opportunities to participate in the discussion and decision-making process about your child's needs for special education. Please click on the following link to access information on procedural safeguards, your legal rights under federal and State laws to be involved and make sure your child receives a free appropriate public education: Revised New York State Procedural Safeguards Notice: Rights for Parents of Children with Disabilities, Ages 3-21 - July 2017
